# Change your ICP safely with preview and undo

> Preview which current leads an ICP edit would drop or add before you save, keep the ones you want, and undo the last change in seconds.

Saving your ideal customer profile makes Embers judge your leads again, and a lead that stops matching leaves the default lead views. The preview shows you who moves before anything is saved, and undo takes you back.

> Editing, regenerating, and deleting the ICP need Solo or above, including the free trial. Any member of the workspace can do it. On Free the ICP page is read-only.

## Preview, then apply an ICP change

### Edit the criteria

Choose **ICP** in the sidebar (`/icp`), headed "ICP & scoring". Add or remove chips under **People criteria** or **Company criteria**. [Define your ICP](/help/getting-started/define-your-icp/) explains each field.

### Choose Save changes

Embers runs your edit against your real leads, then **Review this ICP change** opens. Nothing is saved yet. The top line counts how many leads would drop and would join, and two tabs list them: **Would drop** and **Would join**. Each lead carries a tag saying who decided:

- **Rule.** A current match that one of your exclusions would veto: an excluded title, an excluded industry, or a peer company. These appear at once and cover every current match.
- **AI.** A sample of up to 200 leads, your strongest current matches first and then leads that do not match today, judged against the new criteria. A progress bar tracks it, usually for one to two minutes, and the counts climb as it goes.

Each tab splits its leads into **From your change** and **Re-check corrections**: leads an older check labelled wrongly, which your current ICP would move too. Saving fixes both groups.

### Keep the leads you want

Every lead that would drop has a **Keep** checkbox, and **Keep all** ticks every one. A kept lead is pinned as an ICP match before the change saves, exactly as if you had [tagged it yourself](/help/leads/icp-matching-and-feedback/#correct-a-match), so no later classification can drop it.

### Apply the change

**Apply changes**, or **Apply and keep** with the number of leads you ticked, unlocks when the AI check finishes. It saves the edit with the verdicts you reviewed. Leads outside the sample, including matches beyond the first 200, are judged in the background afterwards, which can take a few minutes.

Leads that no longer match leave **ICP Leads**. To see them, open the **All Engagers** tab of the [leads list](/help/leads/leads-list/).

> **Note: Adding targets drops no one by itself**
>
> Adding job titles, departments, industries, or locations to a list you already fill, or removing exclusions, cannot drop a current lead; only a stale match can go, under **Re-check corrections**. The first entry in an empty list is different: empty means "any", so that entry narrows the ICP.

## What the preview does and does not cover

- **Tagged leads are left out.** A lead you tagged keeps your verdict through any edit, so the preview does not list it.
- **One preview per workspace at a time.** If a teammate's preview is running, yours waits and starts right after it.
- **A preview that goes stale runs again.** If the ICP changes while the dialog is open, Embers runs your preview again once and tells you so.
- **Some saves skip it.** A change to the [signal weighting](/help/leads/how-scoring-works/#tune-signal-weighting) sliders alone moves no verdict, so it saves at once and rescores. **Regenerate from your website**, in the page's menu, drafts fresh criteria from a website or description and replaces the current ones without a preview.
- **An AI assistant previews too.** It [asks before saving](/help/integrations/mcp/#how-it-handles-scores-workspaces-and-changes).

## Undo the last change

**Undo last change** in the **Change history** card puts back the criteria from before your last save and restores every verdict that save changed. It uses no AI and finishes in seconds, then scores are recalculated. After a previewed save, the confirmation toast carries an **Undo** button for about 12 seconds. Undo works even while leads are still being rescored.

You cannot undo an undo or the first definition of the ICP. Undo also leaves two things alone:

- **Kept leads stay pinned.** Anyone you ticked **Keep** on stays tagged as an ICP match. Remove the tag on the lead if you no longer want it.
- **Sent is sent.** Slack, HubSpot, HeyReach, Instantly, Smartlead, Emelia, and webhook deliveries, and notifications, that went out for leads the change added are not recalled.

## Restore an older version

Every save records the ICP as it was just before, with who saved it, when, and which fields changed. **Change history** lists the latest five; **Show all** reveals up to 50. **Restore to before this** loads that version into the editor with a banner; **Discard** drops it. To go ahead, choose **Save changes** and review it like any other edit. A restore is an ordinary save, so it can be undone too.

## Troubleshooting

- **Save changes is greyed out.** Nothing differs from the saved ICP yet.
- **There is no Save changes button.** The workspace is on Free, where the page is read-only.
- **"There is no earlier ICP to go back to."** The last save was the first definition. Edit the criteria instead.
- **"The last change was already undone."** Pick a version in **Change history** and restore it.
- **The preview could not finish.** Choose **Try again**. If it keeps failing, save a smaller edit.

## Frequently asked questions

**Can I save without the preview?**

Not for an edit that could change a verdict; the ICP page always previews those. Two saves skip it. A change to the signal weighting sliders alone has no verdicts to show, and Regenerate from your website replaces the criteria wholesale. Both can be undone.

**Can I undo a change I made last week?**

Only the most recent change has an undo. For anything older, open Change history, choose Restore to before this on the save you want to reverse, then save it like any other edit.

**Does undo recall leads that were already sent to Slack or HubSpot?**

No. Deliveries and notifications that went out for leads the change added stay sent. Undo only restores the criteria and the match verdicts inside Embers.
