> Set what you sell, who you sell it to, and how you write, so every DM draft sounds like you rather than a template pulled off a shelf.

Drafts are only as good as what Embers knows about you. The Outreach Voice card is where you teach it what you sell, who you sell to, how you write, and which tone to use.

> **Warning: Solo and above**
>
> The Outreach Voice card requires Solo or above, as does draft generation itself. It also needs at least one profile on the Watchlist with the **Own** role, because the voice is learned from your own posts. If you watch other people only, drafts use your tone and product context alone.

## Where it lives

**Settings**, then **Content** (`/settings/content`). One card, four things to set, and a read-only voice profile underneath.

## What to fill in

### What do you sell?

One or two sentences about your product or service. Up to 2000 characters, but short and concrete beats long. This is what the draft bridges to after the hook.

### What pain does it solve?

The problem your customers face without you. Also up to 2000 characters. Write the symptom the buyer would recognise, not the category you compete in.

### Who are you selling it for?

Your audience description: roles, industries, company types, or buying signals. Up to 4000 characters. This field is the same description your ideal customer profile uses, so editing it here updates your ICP as well.

### Pick a tone

Seven tones are available. The card previews a sample opening line for whichever one you select.

| Tone | Style |
| --- | --- |
| Casual | Fragments, lowercase, contractions. Texting a smart coworker. |
| Professional | Warm but polished. Conference hallway energy. |
| Direct | Fewest possible words. One thought, fast. |
| Friendly | Approachable, warm, conversational. Coffee chat energy. |
| Witty | Clever and playful, without trying too hard. |
| Empathetic | Thoughtful. Leads with shared experience. |
| Bold | Confident and assertive. A strong point of view, no hedging. |

Casual is the fallback when nothing has been set.

### Save changes

Choose **Save changes**. The button stays disabled until something has actually changed.

## The voice profile

Below the fields sits a read-only **Voice Profile**: a short description of how you write, plus three to five **exemplar snippets** taken from your own posts. Drafts are written against both, which is what stops every message from reading like the same template with a different name at the top.

How it is built:

- Embers reads the **10 most recent posts** from your Own profile, picks the snippets that best show your style, and writes the description.
- It needs **at least three posts**. Below that, the profile is skipped.
- It refreshes on its own during the regular scan, so it tracks how you write today rather than how you wrote a year ago.
- **Regenerate** rebuilds it on demand. The card shows when it was last generated.

> **Tip: What a good voice sample looks like**
>
> The sample pool is your own recent posts, so the profile is only as good as they are. It works best when your last ten posts are things you actually wrote: specific, first person, with the sentence lengths and quirks you use in a real message. A run of link reshares with no commentary, or ten posts written by someone else in a house style, gives Embers little to copy. If the profile does not sound like you, publish a few posts in your natural voice and use **Regenerate**.

## How this shows up in drafts

Your identity and voice profile take the largest share of the briefing Embers builds for each draft, ahead of the prospect's own profile. Tone shapes the register, product context supplies the bridge, and the exemplars set the rhythm.

For a one-off change, do not edit these settings. Use **Custom style guidance** on the draft card instead: up to 500 characters that apply to a single draft, such as "keep it under 3 sentences".

## Troubleshooting

- **Drafts feel generic.** Product description or pain solved is probably empty or vague. Both fields are used verbatim as context.
- **No Voice Profile section appears.** No profile has the Own role on the Watchlist, fewer than three posts have been picked up from it, or the first scan has not finished.
- **Changes did not save.** Each text field has a character counter. Save is blocked while a field is over its limit, and the field turns red.

## Frequently asked questions

**Why is my voice profile empty?**

It needs at least three posts from a profile you watch with the Own role. With fewer than three, Embers skips it and drafts fall back to your tone and product context alone.

**Can I override the tone for a single lead?**

Yes. The draft card has a custom style guidance field of up to 500 characters that applies to that one draft.
