Set your outreach voice and product context

Tell Embers what you sell, who you sell to, and which tone to use, and read the voice profile it learns from your posts so DM drafts sound like you.

Solo and above Updated 4 min read

The Outreach voice card tells Embers what you sell, who you sell it to, and how you sound. Every DM draft is written from it, alongside a voice profile Embers learns from your own posts.

Fill in the Outreach voice card

  1. Open Settings, then Content

Go to Settings, then Content (/settings/content). The page opens on one line, “Your voice profile is ready” or “No voice profile yet”, with when it was generated, the tone, and how many snippets it found. Below it, Outreach voice sits on the left and, once Embers has learned your voice, Voice profile on the right.

  2. Say what you sell and the pain it solves

What do you sell? is one or two sentences about your product or service. What pain does it solve? is the problem your customers have without you. Each takes up to 2,000 characters. Write the symptom a buyer would recognise, not the category you compete in. When either field is blank, Embers fills it from your ICP, and never overwrites what you typed.

  3. Describe who you sell to

Who are you selling it for? takes up to 4,000 characters: roles, industries, company types, or buying signals. This is the same description your ideal customer profile uses. With no ICP yet, saving it creates one.

  4. Pick a tone

Under Tone, choose one of seven tones. A sample opening line for the selected one sits under the choices, such as “Hi, I noticed your engagement with my recent post on…” for Professional:

    ToneStyle
CasualFragments, lowercase, contractions. Texting a smart coworker.
    ProfessionalWarm and polished. Conference hallway.
    DirectFewest possible words. One thought.
    FriendlyWarm, approachable, generous.
    WittyClever and a little playful.
EmpatheticLeads with understanding of their situation.
BoldConfident and opinionated. Takes a stance.

Professional is selected on a new workspace.

  5. Save changes

Save changes and Cancel appear under the card once something changed; Cancel puts back what was saved. Choose Save changes. If you edited the audience and an ICP already exists, Embers opens the ICP change preview before applying it, because a new description re-checks your leads. See change your ICP safely with preview and undo.

The voice profile

Beside the fields, or below them on a narrow screen, the read-only Voice profile card describes how you write in a few sentences and quotes three to five snippets under From your posts. A snippet cut short ends on an ellipsis. Drafts are written against both, which keeps every message from reading like the same template.

  • Source. Your primary Own profile: the oldest profile on the Watchlist with the Own role, preferring an active one. Other Own profiles do not contribute. See what the Own role adds.
  • Input. The 10 most recent posts with text. Each snippet is cut at 300 characters.
  • Minimum. At least three posts. With fewer, Embers skips the profile and the card stays hidden.
  • Refresh. It rebuilds after every completed scan in the workspace, and Regenerate rebuilds it on demand. The card shows when it was last generated.

How the settings reach a draft

Your identity and voice profile open the briefing Embers builds for each lead. Tone sets the register, product and pain supply the bridge, and the snippets set the rhythm. For a one-off change, leave these settings alone and use Custom style guidance on the draft: up to 500 characters that apply to a single generation.

Troubleshooting

  • Drafts feel generic. The product and pain fields are empty or vague, or no voice profile exists yet. Make both fields specific and check the Voice profile card.
  • No Voice profile card. You have no Own profile on the Watchlist, fewer than three of its posts have text, or the first scan has not finished.
  • Regenerate fails. Regeneration shares the hourly limit of 60 AI actions per person with draft generation. Wait and try again.
  • The audience did not save. The ICP preview was closed without applying it. Your product, pain, and tone changes are already saved; save again and apply the preview.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there no Voice profile card?
Embers needs at least three posts from your own profile on the Watchlist. Until then the card stays hidden and drafts use your tone and product context alone.
Can I change the tone for one lead only?
Yes. Use Custom style guidance on that lead's draft. It takes up to 500 characters and applies to that one generation.
Which of my profiles does the voice come from?
One profile, your primary Own profile. That is the oldest Own profile on the Watchlist, preferring one that is active.
