> What each sign-in, Google, password reset, and email verification error in Embers means, and the quickest way back into your account.

Most sign-in problems come down to the wrong sign-in method for the account, an old link, or a pop-up blocker. Find the message you see below.

## Sign-in errors

| Message | Cause and fix |
| --- | --- |
| `Invalid username or password. Please try again.` | The email or password is wrong, or there is no account for that email. Check the address, then choose **Forgot password?** |
| A message that the account signs in with Google | The account was created with Google and has no password. Choose **Continue with Google**, or set a password with **Forgot password?** |
| `This email already has an account.` | You chose Google, but that email already has a password account. Enter the password below it, or use the **set one here** link to create a password |
| `Your session has expired. Please log in again.` | Your sign-in lapsed. Sign in again; Embers returns you to the page you were on |

Repeated attempts are limited to 10 a minute. If you see a message that the request was throttled, wait for the time it names and try once more.

## Google sign-in does not open or finish

| Message | Fix |
| --- | --- |
| `Couldn’t open the Google sign-in window. Check your popup or ad blocker, or use your email below.` | Allow pop-ups for `app.useembers.com`, or sign in with your email and password |
| `The Google sign-in window closed before finishing. Please try again.` | The Google window was closed early. Start again and finish in that window |
| `Google sign-in couldn’t load. Disable your ad blocker or use your email below.` | An extension blocked Google's script. Turn it off for Embers, or use email |
| `Google sign-in failed. Please try again, or use your email below.` | Google returned an error. Try again once, then use email |

When you sign up, `This Google account is already registered.` means the account exists: choose **Sign in instead**.

## Reset your password

### Request a link

On the sign-in page choose **Forgot password?**, enter your email, and choose **Send Reset Link**. The page always confirms with **Check your email**, whether or not an account exists, so a missing email can also mean a typo in the address.

### Open the newest email

Use the link from the most recent reset email. If nothing arrives within a few minutes, work through [missing Embers emails](/help/troubleshooting/not-receiving-emails/#check-the-address-and-the-spam-folder).

### Set a new password

Choose a password of at least 8 characters, confirm it, and choose **Reset Password**. **Invalid reset link** with `This password reset link is invalid or has expired` means the link was already used or is too old: choose **Request New Reset Link** and start again.

To change a password you already know, use **Settings**, then **Profile** instead. See [change your password](/help/account-and-billing/account-settings/#change-your-password).

## Verify your email address

Embers emails a verification link when you sign up, and the link lasts **one day**. Accounts created with Google are already verified.

- **`This verification link is invalid or has expired. Request a new one below.`** Choose **Send a new verification link** on the same page.
- **`No verification token found. Please use the link from your email.`** The link is incomplete. Copy the whole link from the email into the address bar.
- **The link never arrived.** Open **Settings**, then **Profile** (`/settings/profile`). While your address waits for its link, a notice reads **Verify your email to unlock all features** with a **Resend email** button.

## Sign up errors

- **`An account with this email already exists. Please sign in instead.`** Sign in, or reset the password if you have forgotten it.
- **`Password must be at least 8 characters`** Choose a longer password.

If you were invited to someone else's workspace, sign in with the address the invitation was sent to. See [join a workspace](/help/getting-started/join-a-workspace/).

## Troubleshooting

- **The reset link fails straight away.** A reset link works once, and stops working after your password changes. Request a new one and use it right away.
- **You can sign in, but the workspace you expected is missing.** You signed in with a different address than the one that owns or joined it. Sign out and sign in with the other address.
- **Nothing here matches.** Check the [frequently asked questions](/help/troubleshooting/faq/), then email viraj@useembers.com with the address you sign in with and the exact message.

## Frequently asked questions

**I signed up with Google. Can I sign in with a password?**

Yes, once you set one. Choose Forgot password? on the sign-in page and follow the emailed link. After that, both Google and the password work.

**How long does an email verification link last?**

One day. After that the link shows as invalid or expired, and the page offers a button to send a new one.

**Why does Embers say my session has expired?**

Your sign-in lapsed. Sign in again and Embers takes you back to the page you were on.
